Genesys Spine Wins International Award
Genesys Spine is pleased to announce that the Binary® Anterior Cervical Plating System has been awarded the Iron A’ Design Award in the category of Scientific Instruments, Medical Devices and Research Equipment Design by the grand jury panel of the A’ Design Award & Competition, which consists of internationally influential press members, established designers, leading academics and prominent entrepreneurs.
The Binary Anterior Cervical Plate was designed to reduce the number of tools and steps required in cervical spine surgery and reduce patient time on the operating table. While there are competing products on the market, those systems tend to require additional instruments and surgical steps, as well as an additional plate or mechanism to hold the screws in place, all of which can lead to extended time in surgery and the need for additional anesthesia. The new Binary Plating System incorporates patented Helios® Technology from Genesys Spine, which is a combination of counter rotation functionality, anti-backout functionality, and what Genesys calls the “Zero-Step” feature: A clever ratcheted screw-head system that locks into place in the head of the screws with a notable click.
“The A’ Design Awards are the world’s most influential and largest design awards, presented each year in Italy. It is a great honor for us to receive this prestigious award, and we would like to thank all of our friends and partners for their support and help along the way. This award, providing recognition to the excellence of design, places Genesys on an international stage” said Josh Kaufmann, Genesys Spine principal.
The Binary System is an example of Genesys Spine’s commitment to innovation for anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF) procedures. The system not only offers the patented Zero-Step Helios Locking technology, but also has an expanded-range of screw angulations, allowing the physician to position a shorter plate for the patient’s individual surgical needs while maintaining plate margin from the adjacent disc.
“The novelty of the Binary anterior cervical plate originates from our excellent surgeon feedback,” said Landon Gilkey, Principal Design Engineer for Genesys Spine. “They wanted a simple-to-use system with a robust locking mechanism that was capable of accommodating the broad spectrum of patient anatomies. The result was the Binary cervical plate with zero-step locking technology and industry leading screw angulation.”
The Iron A’ Design Award
The A’ Design Award is a prestigious award given to top 20% percentile designs that has attained an exemplary level of greatness in design. Entries to the A’ Medical Product Design Awards are peer reviewed and anonymously judged by an expert jury panel of prominent academics, important press members and established professionals. Nominated medical product designs are voted on pre-determined evaluation criteria to highlight only the very best medical product design works. In addition to reaching top international media, A’ Medical Product Design Award winners are listed at World Design Rankings (worlddesignrankings.com), are highlighted at Design Classification (designclassifications.com) platform and are showcased at DesignMag.org which lists the best designs from all countries in all disciplines.
About Genesys Spine
Founded in December of 2009, Genesys Spine was started by veterans of the spinal device industry. The founding partners have used their industry knowledge and input from existing surgeon relationships to introduce, into a mature spinal fusion market, an array of medical implants and instruments with novel characteristics. These devices, with their proprietary features, all remain within existing parameters for today’s current reimbursement codes.
